Entering the Competition

Details of the Flower & Produce Show 2016 Competition

There are four categories: Children’s; Flowers; Baking & Preserves; Vegetables. Within these categories there are 50 different competitions to enter, plus two bonus awards! Here is the full list of competitions, each with their own number – important! – which are also listed on the Show Schedule which you can download by clicking here: Show Schedule A4

The Schedule contains an entry form that you can print off in order to enter the competition, along with instructions on how exactly to enter.

Category 1: Children’s

  1. Garden on a dinner plate (under 7s)
  2. Garden on a dinner plate (age 8-11)
  3. Decorate a pot and grow cress in it (any age)
  4. Picture of a garden (under 7s)
  5. Picture of a garden (8-11 years)
  6. Find a funny vegetable (any age)
  7. Make a monster from waste materials (any age)
  8. Make a bird feeder from recycled materials (any age)
  9. A vegetable grown by you (any age)
  10. Painting or drawing of a bumble bee (under 7s)
  11. Largest sunflower head – diameter of the head (any age)

Category 2: Flowers

  1. Best floral planting in an old container– metal, wood or plastic 2 litre size approx.
  2. Best planting of foliage or grasses in an old container – metal or plastic
  3. Posy – hand held collection of cut flowers no bigger than a tea plate. Can use wire, string or dowelling to form the handle
  4. 3 windowsill herbs in recycled containers
  5. Best rose – cut flower in a vase
  6. Flower arrangement in a teacup and saucer
  7. Best use of a plastic bottle for planting
  8. Flowers that attract butterflies – cut flowers in a jam jar

Category 3: Baking and Preserves

  1. Cake made with a vegetable
  2. Cake made with a fresh fruit (no dried fruits)
  3. Victoria Sponge – made with 3 eggs
  4. Lemon Drizzle Cake
  5. A Decorated Cake
  6. 4 Fruit Scones
  7. White Loaf – handmade, not using a breadmaker
  8. Brown Loaf – handmade, not using a breadmaker
  9. Savoury Flan
  10. 6 Biscuits, same type

Preserves: all preserves to be covered with a wax disc and film top (not cling film or lid)

  1. A pot of Hedgerow jam – elderberries, blackberries, crab apples, rowan berries etc
  2. A pot of Strawberry jam
  3. A pot of Apple jelly
  4. A pot of Marmalade
  5. A pot of Chutney, more than 3 months old
  6. A Jar of Pickles

Category 4: Vegetables

  1. Collection of potatoes – 3 each of 3 varieties
  2. 3 carrots stump rooted
  3. 3 round beetroot
  4. 2 courgettes
  5. Heaviest onion
  6. 9 large shallots
  7. Heaviest marrow
  8. Longest runner bean
  9. 9 French beans
  10. 9 runner beans
  11. 2 lettuces
  12. Truss of tomatoes
  13. 2 cauliflowers
  14. Collection of pumpkins, gourds or squashes
  15. 6 peas of one variety

Extra Categories:

  • Best in Show: highest individual overall number of points for entries
  • Best in Show from recycled materials

How to Enter

Firstly, you don’t need to enter yet! Just get growing and planning for now.

Wait till 26th August – then download the Schedule, print it the entry form and deliver by hand to the postbox at the Chantry Centre, or post to:
